Nellie Landen Olmstead, 90, died Friday, June 26, 2009 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Olmstead was a native of Nash County, the daughter of the late Joe Cephus Landen, Sr. and Minnie Sessoms Landen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace A. Olmstead, and five brothers, Ralph, William, Joe Jr., Lonnie, and Dick Landen.

She is survived by her son, Charles B. "Chuck" Landen of Roanoke Rapids; one granddaughter, Linda Grimes and her husband, Jeff, of Portland, Oregon; two grandsons, Chad Landen and his wife, Julie, and Todd Landen and his wife, Mille, all of Greensboro; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Pete Landen, of Halifax; a special niece, Nell Landen, of Roanoke Rapids; several other nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law, Francis Olmstead, of Roanoke Rapids.

Askew Funeral & Cremation Services is handling the arrangements, where the family will meet Sunday, June 28, 2009 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at 510 E. 3rd Street, Roanoke Rapids.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 29, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Jim Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Cemetery.
